Kate Damm

Kate Damm is a complex crimes detective for a large suburban agency in the Minneapolis metro where she specializes in intimate partner violence and sexual assault. She regularly collaborates with community-based advocates and criminal justice system partners to bring a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach to gender-based violence. During her law enforcement career, she has been assigned to patrol, field training, the crisis intervention team, and the domestic violence response team. She is a nationally certified emergency medical technician, holds certifications in tactical medicine, and formerly worked for an advanced life support EMS agency.

She initiated bipartisan efforts to successfully change Minnesota’s domestic violence laws, consulting on bill language and providing testimony to the legislature. She received the 2021 Minnesota Association of Women Police Excellence in Service Award for her efforts. She consults on intimate partner homicide and is a board 

member for Minnesota’s only domestic fatality review team. She is certified in both the Danger Assessment and the Ontario Domestic Violence Abuse Risk Assessment, and she has advanced training in coercive control, stalking, strangulation, and sexual assault.
