Mandi Van BurenMandi Van Buren brings more than 17 years of experience in forensic science, with specialized expertise in DNA analysis, crime scene processing, and courtroom testimony. She previously served as a Senior Forensic Scientist at the Utah State Crime Lab before relocating to California to become the DNA Technical Lead for the Kern Regional Crime Laboratory. As the DNA Technical Lead, Mandi guided her team to become the first public forensic laboratory in the United States to implement next generation sequencing (NGS) technology for casework. She also served as the lead expert in the first U.S. admissibility hearing involving NGS, helping pave the way for broader adoption of advanced sequencing technologies in forensic laboratories nationwide.

Today, Mandi serves as an Account Specialist with DNA Labs International, where she leverages her extensive laboratory and courtroom background to train agencies and collaborate with forensic laboratories across the country. DNA Labs International is a leading private DNA laboratory fully accredited under ANAB ISO 17025 and FBI QAS standards. With one of the most comprehensive forensic DNA toolboxes available, the laboratory offers advanced collection methods—including MVAC and Spent Shell casing collection—alongside traditional STR and Y-STR testing, whole genome sequencing, SNP array technology, Kintelligence, and genealogy. Through tailored testing strategies and cutting-edge technologies, Mandi works closely with partners to strengthen investigative leads, enhance complex case results, and support the mission of advancing justice in cases across the US and beyond.
