make an initial assessment regarding the cause and manner of death and whether an autopsy was
warranted
- Photography of the scene and decedent
- Positive identification of the decedent, location of next of kin, and death notifications
- Investigation of reports of hospital and hospice deaths in accordance with state statutes
- Communication with District Attorneys, law enforcement agencies, funeral homes, and family members
of the deceased
- Report writing
