As an executive in the non-profit world, Dean has served as the Chairman of the Board for The Hope Alliance; Chairman of the Community Dispute Resolution Services Board of Directors; Chairman of the Provo Youth Services Board; Chairman of the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center Provo Community Outreach Council; Event Chairman for America’s Freedom Festival; and Chairman of the Group Study Exchange program for Rotary District.
Dean served as a member on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Utah County United Way Executive Board; Co-Chairman Utah Valley State College Community-Relations Council; member of the Salt Lake Olympic Council 2002 Winter Olympics Interfaith Roundtable; Advisory and Board member for the Community Mediation Center; member of the Utah County Domestic Violence Coalition; Executive Board of the Utah National Parks Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and the IHC Urban South Region Board Community Outreach Committee. Dean has also had numerous committee appointments including serving on the Provo, Utah Mayor’s Transition Team.

Additionally, Dean has is a member of the Provo Rotary club and has served on the Club Board of Directors and as the Club’s Centennial President. He has also served as Administrative Assistant for the Host Organization Committee for the 2007 Rotary International Convention, and Chairman of the Zone Breakfast at the 2008 Rotary International Convention. He is the Past District Governor from 2007-2008. In 2011 Dean served as Zone Aide to President Sakuji Tanaka and this year as Aide to Director Takeshi Matsumiya at the Hawaii Peace Forum. Dean has an ongoing relationship with Japan. Following the tsunami in 2010, he worked tirelessly with friends and colleagues to provide both CISM training and materials, as well as support towards the disaster relief and rebuilding.

In 2004 Dean received the Utah International Association of Business Communicators and the Utah Public Relations Society of America’s Communicator of the Year Award.

Dean remains active in Asia while serving as the Deputy Executive Director of the Cold Case Foundation, an active member of the Utah Critical Incident Management Team, and Chaplain for the Provo Police Department. He runs a cross-cultural consulting firm which focuses on cultural path finding, community building skills, and community program development. Dean is also a certified mediator with the State of Utah. He continues to provide training for law enforcement and government agencies on cold case investigation, stress management, death notifications, and relationships.
