Joni E. Johnston, Psy.D.Dr. Joni Johnston is a clinical/forensic psychologist and licensed private investigator. With over 30 years of clinical and forensic experience as a therapist and evaluator, she brings a diversity of professional expertise to evaluating crime scene behavior and understanding the criminal mind. She began her career working with sex offenders, sex offender victims and their families. She has conducted over 200 independent sexual harassment investigations and has worked with numerous companies and universities in evaluating and assessing employee conduct problems and workplace threats.

Over the past ten years, she has focused exclusively on criminal behavior, having worked inside the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on the crisis and assessment units and conducted violence risk assessments for the CDCR and the Board of Parole. She has taught master’s level courses in victimology, forensic psychology and criminal psychopathology. She has received specialized training in investigative psychology and conducting psychological autopsies and has special interests in serial sex offenders, equivocal death analysis in which suicide is suspected or staged, and serial homicide.
She is also an active communicator about forensic psychology topics. She cohosts a weekly forensic radio show/podcast and writes a law and psychology blog for Psychology Today.
