Gary ChildsGary’s Law Enforcement career spans 46 years. He began his career with the Baltimore City Police Department in January of 1972 retiring 22 years later in 1994 as a Detective Sergeant in the Homicide Unit. During this time, he supervised and/or investigated 450+ murder investigations. Prior to this assignment he was a Detective Sergeant in the Narcotics Unit and assigned the DEA Task Force. He has testified in both State and Federal Courts and served as Case Agent in a multi-defendant CCE Narcotics Investigation in the Baltimore District Court. Office as a Child Abuse Investigator before being assigned to the States Attorneys Office as an investigator. In 1997, he joined the Baltimore County Police Department where after completing a mandatory 3 years in the Garrison Precinct, he was assigned to the Homicide Unit in 2000. He remained in the Homicide Unit as a Detective until he retired in 2018. He was assigned or assisted in the investigation of approximately 270 homicide during this period.
Gary joined the Maryland Army National Guard in 1972 and has an Honorable Discharge after 22 years of service attaining the rank of SFC-E7.

M.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from the U. of Baltimore 1979
Recognitions
While in the BPD he was awarded several Bronze Stars and Special Commendations as well as the Legion of Merit Award which has only been awarded 6 previous times.
He was a member of an Independent Review Board headed by CNA regarding the death of Detective Sean Suiter which concluded that Detective Suiter’s death was a Suicide.
He has appeared in Dateline and Netflix episodes for cases he has investigated including a 12-year-old Homicide case.
He served as president of the HAPS (Harvard Associates in Police Science) organization for two years.
He was a certified Instructor with the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission.
Working with The National Police Foundation, an independent non-partisan and non-membership organization who provides training to Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the United States. He instructs on Homicide Case Management, Unexplained Death Investigations, Interviews and Interrogations, Investigating the Crime Scene, and Case-Based Homicide Investigations from the Original call to Trial.
Currently, he is doing some PI work, teaching, farming and enjoying his family. He is married with two grown children, and two grandchildren. His daughter is a Police Officer in the Baltimore County Police Department.
