Karen McDonough

Karen McDonough is an award-winning veteran journalist who has worked in the media for more than 30 years. She’s covered some of the most notorious crimes in the past several decades. Her stories regularly appeared on the front page of newspapers, and she’s been an invited guest on radio and TV.

After spending part of her career behind the camera, she stepped in front of the camera as the Public Information Officer for the Oceanside (CA) Police Department for half a decade. Her specialized training includes crisis communications and media relations. She was a member of the League of California Cities’ Public Safety Committee, which makes policy recommendations on public safety issues to the California Governor.
More recently, Karen was the editor-in-chief of an international news service where she ran the daily operations and was responsible for the editorial content, managing a team of writers based around the world. As a freelance writer, her work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Fox News, The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Law and Order Magazine, Police Chief Magazine, SBNation.com and many other publications. She’s the author of the biographical book, “A Ballerina For Our Time,” available on Amazon.com. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

Karen and her husband, Chris, are the creators of the true crime YouTube Channel, The Interview Room with Chris McDonough.
