William BarnettBill joined the Massachusetts State Police in 1986, initially assigned to a barracks in Worcester County, Massachusetts. Bill has over twenty-four years of investigative experience beginning with the State Police Division of Technical Services as a Firearms (Ballistics) Examiner where his responsibilities included responding to firearms related incidents/scenes/autopsies and conducted or supervised the search, collection, preservation, and examination of firearms related evidence.
In 1992, Bill transferred to the State Police Division of Investigative Services, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, District Attorney's Office initially conducting narcotics investigations then death investigations (homicide/suicide). Bill was later assigned to work with Boston Police Major Case Unit focusing on organized crime and gaming. |
On September 11, 2001, while assigned to the Major Case Unit, Bill was temporarily assigned to assist the FBI with the investigation into the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. Bill transferred to the Boston FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force on November 11, 2001.
He has conducted counter-terrorism investigations and traveled the United States training criminal investigators in local and federal agencies moving into national security investigations (J.T.T.F.). Bill worked on the Criminal Investigation Task Force at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba among other assignments. Additional law enforcement education includes sexually violent offender, statement analysis, joint terrorism operations, international tenorism source development, domestic HUMINT collection.
Bill served the Massachusetts State Police in several management roles including Chief of Staff to the Division Commander of Field Services. His ability to coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies was recognized as an asset, having a positive impact on investigations and operations.
In April 2017, Bill retired to take a position with Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital as Deputy Chief for Investigations, Intelligence and Compliance as the hospital transitioned from a contract security to in-house Police and Security.
Bill served as a Radioman Second Class in the United States Coast Guard, is a graduate of Suffolk University, Boston, MA (B.S. Government/Public Administration) and Boston University, Boston, MA (M.S. Criminal Justice). He is involved in several law enforcement organizations such as FBI National Academy Associates (#228), Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, Former MA Troopers Association, Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, and International Homicide Investigators Association.
